As a Psychological Sciences major, you will be able to become a student member of any of the professional organizations serving psychologists. Some of the national organizations you may wish to join include:

• American Psychological Association (APA)
• Association for Psychological Science (APS)

Although Nebraska is officially part of the Midwestern region, in many cases the conference for the Rocky Mountain region is closer for students and faculty to attend. Department members and students presented in 2007 and 2008. Some of these organizations include:

• Rocky Mountain Psychological Association

Employment opportunities for people with graduate degrees in Psychology are expected to grow approximately 20 percent by 2024. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), “an undergraduate degree remains excellent preparation for continued graduate work in psychology or for another field, such as business, medicine, or computer science.”

Dr. Marky Lloyd's Careers in Psychology page provides information about entry level (bachelor's level) jobs in psychology and related fields, and about options available with a graduate degree.

Psychological Sciences majors have the opportunity to complete 3 hours of internship, although more hours can count as electives. Internships help students to gain on-the-job experience in areas related to psychology. Student internships can be arranged in the Internship Office. The Internship office maintains a list of organizations currently looking for interns. In addition, they can work with you to set up an internship at a new internship site. Please contact the Internship Office to help you set up an internship.

While an internship is no longer required as part of the program, students who do not plan to attend graduate school may find it useful to explore potential human services related careers.
